All week we will be featuring live performances from these Tony nominated Broadway shows!
Nominated for 11 Tony Awards, we'll be featuring a performance with John Gallagher Jr. and Lauren Pritchard from SPRING AWAKENING.
The story of Spring Awakening: It's Germany in 1891, and teenagers are discovering their sexuality. Wendla (Lea Michele) is confused when her mother says that babies come from a woman loving with her whole heart, and nothing more. Moritz (John Gallagher Jr.) hasn't slept in days. His grades are slipping, and all he can think about are his long nightmares--and women. Hanschen is a shining example of the German male, who loves studying with Ernst. Martha is hiding a secret. And Melchior Gabor (Jonathan Groff) is sick of it all.
Nominated for 8 Tony Awards, we'll be featuring a performance with David Hyde Pierce, Debra Monk, and more of the cast from CURTAINS.
The story of Curtains: The scene unfolds backstage at Boston's Colonial Theatre. A new musical could be on its way to becoming a Broadway smash, were it not for the presence of its talent-free leading lady. When the hapless star dies during her curtain call on opening night, Lieutenant Frank Cioffi (David Hyde Pierce) arrives on the scene to conduct an investigation. But the lure of the theatre proves irresistible, and after an unexpected romance blooms for the stage-struck detective, he finds himself just as drawn toward making the show a hit as he is to solving the murder.
Nominated for 3 Tony Awards, we'll be featuring a performance with Raúl Esparza from COMPANY.
The story of Company: This Stephen Sondheim/George Furth musical comedy takes an unconventional look at love and commitment in a complex, modern world. The show is a sophisticated portrayal of five married couples as seen through the eyes of their mutual friend Bobby (Raúl Esparza), a bachelor weighing the pros and cons of wedded life.
Nominated for 11 Tony Awards, we'll be featuring a performance with Christine Ebersole and Erin Davie from GREY GARDENS.
The story of Grey Gardens: Once among the brightest names in the Social Register, Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter, "Little" Edie Beale, were the real--life eccentric aunt and cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Eventually, they became East Hampton's most notorious recluses, living in a dilapidated 28-room mansion. Set in two eras, in 1941 when the estate was in its prime and in 1973 when it was reduced to squalor, the musical tells the alternately humorous and heartbreaking story of these two indomitable women, played by Mary Louise Wilson and Christine Ebersole.
Nominated for 7 Tony Awards, we'll be featuring a performance with the cast of MARY POPPINS!
The story of Mary Poppins: Based on the books by P. L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Mary Poppins is the story of the Banks family and how their lives change after the arrival of a new nanny, Mary Poppins, at their home in London.
The 61st Annual Tony Awards show airs Sunday, June 10th at 8pm Eastern on CBS. For more information about the Tony Awards visit www.tonyawards.com
